Is any customer information ever sold?

No, never! No collection of personal data, etc., will ever occur by Lightside Technologies for the purpose of profit or exchange.

What is your security like?

Our website and store:

We run WordPress on OpenBSD with nginx with the latest PHP version. Our install is setup in a way that is very secure. Additionally, we do not store payment information such as credit card numbers.

Our business network:

Since we connect to clients and deal with client servers we need to be very secure ourselves, our network is kept clean, segmented, multiple VLANs and strict firewall rules, and we run Snort (intrusion prevention system) with many essential rules. Further, our servers are all well secured Linux (primarily Debian and CentOS) and OpenBSD. We practice what we preach, our goal is to implement good security practice in our clients systems as well.

What if I want to cancel?

If you wish to cease business relations we understand and we will remain open to future business. If you are comfortable please inform us of any concerns or issues you may have had as they will be seriously considered.

Canceling will depend upon if we have a contract as canceling with need to occur in line with what we have agreed upon. Any systems access can be removed whether it is by you or us, and we can arrange return of any managed equipment. Any systems we have secured, or setup, the documentation and access credentials will be handed over. We want to be as professional as possible and make it a smooth transition for you.

Why do you sell these particular products?

We sell the same products we would (prefer) to use for the various projects you may have us assist with you with, that way we are selling what we ourselves would use. We want to sell an array of quality products that we know our clients would like rather than a huge and confusing amount of competing products.

Even if we do not sell a product you think would be best to suit your needs, we will certainly investigate the best option for you and have that as an alternative option. Our goal is to implement, fix, and do what is right to solve your particular set of requirements.

What if I need something you do not advertise?

If you need something that we do not list on our website, whether it is a product or service, ask us! We can determine if we are able to assist with your particular need and go from there.

What do you backup on my servers?

What we backup will vary depending upon your needs and our agreement. For example we can do whole image backups, which is the machine at its current state at a particular day and time, and/or file level backups for important configuration files and data.

Another subject is backup rention, the rention period is something we would discuss for each server or all servers. The rention period can vary depending upon your needs.

As for the backup location, we can direct backups to three possible places – a cloud backup system such as Backblaze, our on-site storage servers, or a server at your location.

What do you monitor on our servers?

You do not need to suffer an outage for a problem to be noticed, there are indications of problems that monitoring can point to and early signs of issues can be acted on before the diseaster occurs. We can monitor all important sources such as disk space, disk activity, CPU usage, etc., and when something abnormal occurs we are made aware and can act on it.

For example, lets say your main file server runs out of storage space in the middle of the work day. Suddenly no one can work on important presentations or documents. But with monitoring we can know that the storage space is getting low in advance and act before the diseaster occurs. This may mean assisting with cleaning up some storage space, or expanding your file server storage during some scheduled downtime.

Do you do end user support?

At this time we do not offer end user support, or IT help desk as its sometimes called. Our focus is on clients infastructure and other important business related servers and services, so end user support is out of our business scope.

Do you support invoice payments?

For clients with accounts who are verified and approved we will accept during checkout the invoice option, simply login with your account to our website and checkout. If you NOT a verified and approved client the invoice option will not show as an available payment / checkout method during checkout.

Clients have 20 days to pay the invoice, please follow the instructions provided with the order or reference our help section.
